Sorry Samsung, first tweet from Everest was actually the second
In what was hoped to be a major viral marketing campaign, Samsung arranged for a tweet to be sent from the top of Mt Everest using their brand-new Galaxy S II smart phone. Unfortunately, their claims of being the first have been dashed.
British mountaineer Kenton Cool sent the tweet at 10:27am, on May 6th (the timezone used is unclear): " Everest summit no 9! 1st tweet from the top of the world thanks to a weak 3G signal & the awesome Samsung Galaxy S2 handset! @samsunguk "
And if you weren't convinced that this was all about the marketing, there's a rather hokey video of Cool wearing a special Galaxy S II t-shirt showing off the phone at Everest Base Camp (you have to watch the video just to see him pull the phone out of a pre-cut hole in an ice-wall!).
So, we have the video, the tweet and loud claims of a record – first tweet from the summit of Everest.
Unfortunately not.
Certainly it was the first tweet using the recently installed mobile phone station at Base Camp and also the first using 3G technology. But it wasn't thefirst.
That award goes to US climber Eric Larsen when he tweeted on October 15th 2010, " Everest summit! -Sent with@DeLormeGPS Earthmate PN-60w ."
Eric's tweet was sent via GPS device (the DeLorme PN-60w ) which was tightly coupled with a satellite communications module (the SPOT satellite communicator). This combination is essentially a mountaineer's GPS coupled with a safety device able to send short messages such as "I'm fine," "Help" or"911." In addition, the PN60w is able to pass messages to the SPOT for transmission, hence the tweet.
So, sorry Samsung, the Galaxy certainly made the first phone call from the summit, but not the first tweet.
A vain Osama bin Laden shown in new videos
One of the most revealing videos of Osama bin Laden released by the Pentagon today presents a startling image: A haggard-looking Osama bin Laden huddled in a blanket and ski cap, holding a remote control, watching television news coverage of himself.
The video shows bin Laden sitting alone in a drab, run-down room in front of an old TV connected by a bundle of bare cables to a satellite receiver.
CBS News correspondent Bob Orr reports that the government did not release the audio of the home movie, but the video obviously shows bin Laden watching a broadcast of one of al Qaeda's many terror messages. In one scene he appears with his deputy Ayman al Zawahiri, walking in the rugged mountains of Afghanistan. Another scene shows the burning towers of the World Trade Center.
The tape was found amidst the mountain of material recovered from bin Laden's lair. The computer disks, handwritten notes, and tapes have now convinced intelligence analysts that bin Laden - to the end - remained the center of his al Qaeda network.
2.7 terabytes of data recovered from bin Laden compound
Osama bin Laden had cash, phone numbers sewn in clothes
Intel on OBL debunks ailing cave-dweller image
A senior intelligence official today called the compound an "active command and control center." There is clear evidence bin Laden was involved in mapping terror plans and giving tactical directions.
Bin Laden, it seems, was also obsessed with his public image.
Another video clip shows bin Laden apparently rehearsing a speech in front of an armoire, which officials believe was inside his compound.
Yet another video shows a practice session in front of wrinkled sheet that may have been draped to hide the background. In another clip, there's an al Qaeda "blooper" of sorts - bin Laden with a false start and a "take two."
Officials did find what seems to be at least one "finished"...yet unreleased bin Laden tape...in which the al Qaeda leader rails against America and capitalism. It was apparently recorded late last year...between October 9 and November 5.
Watch all five bin Laden videos released by the U.S.
Complete coverage: The killing of Osama bin Laden
It's also clear bin Laden had a streak of vanity. In all of the rehearsal tapes and in the last videotaped message released in 2007, the terror mastermind appears with a dyed black beard. In the candid tape of his TV viewing session, bin Laden's beard was gray, the same color it was on Sunday when he was shot and killed by Navy Seals.
While the government has no plans, right now, to release any more of the evidence, a senior intelligence official said the US now has "unquestionable proof" that it was bin Laden who was killed.
A final analysis of DNA calculates the odds of it being anyone else at one in 11.8 quadrillion.

Manny Pacquiao Vs. Shane Mosley Fight Preview And Prediction
Saturday, May 7, 2011 sees the world's number one pound-for-pound boxer, Manny Pacquiao, step back into the ring. Pacquiao will face "Sugar" Shane Mosley on Showtime pay-per-view. The PPV broadcast starts at 9:00 p.m. ET.
How They Match Up
Shane Mosley - 46-6-1 (39 KO), 39 years old, 5'9", 74" reach, Official Weight - 147 lbs
Manny Pacquiao - 52-3-2 (38 KO), 32 years old, 5'6", 67" reach, Official Weight - 145 lbs
Last 5 Fights
Shane Mosley - Draw - SergioMora, Loss (Dec) - Floyd Mayweather Jr., Win (TKO-9) Antonio Margarito, Win (KO-12) Ricardo Mayorga, Loss (Dec) Miguel Cotto
Manny Pacquiao - Win (Dec) -Antonio Margarito, Win (Dec)- Joshua Clottey, Win (TKO-12) - Miguel Cotto, Win (KO-2) - Ricky Hatton, Win (TKO-8) - Oscar De La Hoya
The Breakdown
Manny Pacquiao will enter the ring as a huge favorite. His ability to seemingly move to whatever weight class he wants and dominate his opponents has been amazing. Still, from thepre-fight hype one would be led to believe that all Manny has to do is show up, step in the ring and have his hand raised. It's not going to be that easy.
Shane Mosley is a fading star, yes. But he's a fading star who is battle tested andstill possesses shocking power in both hands. He's also the bigger man by several inches. Once the fighters rehydrate after the weigh-in it's possible that Mosley will have upwards of a ten pound weight advantage.
But, as we saw in Pacquiao'sfight against Margarito, being the smaller man does not mean he will be outmuscled or "fight small."
Pacquiao does have a bad habit lately of standing a bit stationary at times and inviting his opponent to hit him. If Mosley can land one of his powerful right hand shots he can drop Manny, even with Pacquiao's solid chin. Unfortunately for Mosley, if Manny decides to use movement and speed, he just can't match foot or handspeed in 2011. He just is not the quick and athletic fighter he was early in his career.
Everything comes down to Manny's ability to avoid the right hand and overwhelm with speed and combinations. It should be something that he is able to do, but Mosley has beaten men who "should" have beaten him in the past and he'll be doing everything he can to make it happen again.
Prediction
I spent weeks leading up to this fight thinking about how easy of a night it would be or Pacquiao. But over the last few days I've been unable to shake the feeling that something is going to happen. Manny can be hit, and Mosley can hit hard. It's entirely possible (hell, it's entirely likely) that Pacquiaobusts Mosley up and even knocks him out. But I'm going to go with my gut and pick Mosley to score the TKO win somewhere between rounds 4 and 6.
Bin Laden Died In December 2001
America knew Osama bin Laden died December 13, 2001. After that, his use was hardly one to unite America but rather one to divide, scam and play games. With bin Laden gone, we could have started legitimate nation building in Afghanistan ins...tead of the eternal insurgency that we invented ourselves.
Without our ill informed policies, we could have had a brought diplomatic solution in 2002 in Afghanistan, theone we are ignoring now, and spent money rebuilding the country, 5cents on the dollar compared to what we are spending fighting a war against an enemy we ourselves recruited thru ignorance.
The bin Laden scam is one of the most shameful acts ever perpetrated against the American people. We don't even know if he really was an enemy, certainly he was never the person that Bush andCheney said. In fact, the Bush and bin Laden families were always close friends and had been for many years.
What kind of man was Osama bin Laden? This one time American ally against Russia, son of a wealthy Saudi family, went to Afghanistan to help them fight for their freedom. America saw him as a great hero then.Transcripts of the real bin Laden show him to be much more moderatethan we claim, angry at Israel and the US government but showing no anger toward Americans and never making the kind of theats claimed. All of this is public record for any with the will to learn.
How much of America's tragedy is tied with these two children of the rich, children of families long joined thrumoney and friendship, the Bush and bin Laden clans.
One son died in remote mountains, another livesin a Dallas suburb hopingnobody is sent after him.One is a combat veteran, one never took a strong stand unless done from safety and comfort. Islam once saw bin Laden as a great leader. Now he is mostly forgotten.
What has America decided about Bush?
We know this: Bin Ladenalways denied any ties to 9/11 and, in fact, has never been charged in relation to 9/11. He not only denied involvement, but had done so, while alive, 4 times and had vigorously condemned those who were involved in the attack.
This is on the public record, public in every free country except ours. We, instead, showed films made by paid actors, made up to look somewhat similar to bin Laden, actors who contradicted bin Ladens very public statements, actors pretending to be bin Laden long after bin Laden's death.
These were done to help justify spending, repressive laws, torture and simple thievery.
For years, we attacked the government of Pakistan for not hunting down someone everyone knew was dead. Bin Laden's death hit the newspapers in Pakistan on December 15, 2001. How do you think our ally felt when they were continually berated for failing to hunt down and turn oversomeone who didn't exist?
What do you think this did for American credibility in Pakistan and thru the Islamic world? Were we seen as criminals, liars or simply fools? Which one is best?
This is also treason.
How does the death of bin Laden and the defeatand dismemberment of Al Qaeda impact the intelligence assessments, partially based on, not only bin Laden but Al Qaeda activity in Iraq that, not only never happened butwas now known to have been unable to happen?
How many "Pentagon Pundits," the retired officers who sold their honor to send us to war for what is now known to be domestic political dirty tricks and not national security are culpable in these crimes?
I don't always agree with Col. Pappas on things. I believe his politics overrule his judgement at times. However, we totally agree on bin Laden, simply disagree with what it means. To me lying and sending men to their deaths based on lies is treason.
Falsifying military intelligence and spending billions on unnecessary military operations for political reasons is an abomination. Consider this, giving billions in contracts to GOP friends who fill campaign coffers, and doing so based on falsified intelligence is insane. This was done for years.
We spent 8 years chasinga dead man, spending billions, sending FBI agents, the CIA, Navy Seals, Marine Force Recon, Special Forces, many to their deaths, as part of a political campaign to justify running American into debt, enriching a pack ofpolitical cronies and war profiteers and to puff upa pack of Pentagon peacocks and their White house draft dodging bosses.
How many laws were pushed thru because of adead man?
How many hundreds were tortured to find a dead man?
How many hundreds died looking for a dead man?
How many billions were spent looking for a dead man?
Every time Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld stood before troops and talkedabout hunting down the dead bin Laden, it was a dishonor. Lying to men and women who put their lives on the line is not a joke.
Who is going to answer to the families of those who died for the politics and profit tied to the 'Hunt For Bin Laden'?

N2K Top 10: Yes He Cain; War On Terror Is Over
1.YES HE CAIN. A focus group conducted by Republican pollster FrankLuntz after last night’s first Republican presidential debate in South Carolina gave the clear win to political newcomer Herman Cain. Reporting the results on Fox, Luntz said he has never seen anything like Cain’s breakout performance. The applause meter winner was Rep. Ron Paul , R-Texas, whose enthusiastic supporters loudly cheered the one-time Libertarian Party presidential candidate’s defense of his support for decriminalizing heroin. Meanwhile, presumed heavyweight Tim Pawlenty’s performance struck National Journal ’s Beth Reinhard as lackluster.
2.WAR ON TERROR IS OVER. Osama bin Laden is dead, and his dream ofleading endless legions of jihadists in a holy war against the West has likely died with him. National Journal ’s James Kitfield writes in this week's cover story that the Arab Spring now offers an opposing and far more popular model for the empowerment of Arabs and Muslims. That means the post-9/11 eradefined by the “war on terror,” when combatingterrorism was both a national preoccupation and the central organizing principle of American foreign policy, is ending too.
3.SOMETHING NEW. Osama bin Laden's deathprovides President Obama with that rarest of political gifts, the fresh start. Sunday’s stunning raid doesn’t guarantee Obama reelection; judgments about his impact on the economy will have more influence there, writes National Journal 's RonaldBrownstein. But Obama doesn't have a ton of room to grow; he benefited from only a six-point bounce in post-bin Laden Gallup interviews. That, Hotline editor Reid Wilson writes , is because too many Americans are already wedded to their opinion of the president, giving him less room for a real boost.
4.PAKISTAN FEUD. In response to the raid thatkilled bin Laden, the head of Pakistan’s armed forces demanded that the U.S. withdraw many of its military personnel from the country and warned thatany future raids there would prompt a far-reaching re-evaluation of Islamabad’s ties with Washington. Yet the U.S. wants Pakistan to step up its intelligence-sharing about other wanted militants -- especially bin Laden’s probable successor, Ayman al-Zawahiri, who is thought to be hiding in the country’s lawless border regions. Pakistan has rebuffed those requests in the past and shows no signs of changing its behavior now. American patience, however, appears to be rapidly running out .
5.GASOLINE OFFENSE . President Obama is ratcheting up his campaign to tackle soaring gas prices with atrip to an electric vehicles plant in Indianapolis today. His plan of attack includes funding new biofuels projects and fuel-efficient vehicles. Yet even Obama’s top aides acknowledge that will be a long and arduous process that doesn't fit into a politicalcycle. His efforts could risk falling on deaf ears to an electorate angry about high gasoline prices -- now at $3.98 a gallon -- and Republicansdriving a pro-drilling agenda.
6.WHAT’S NEXT? The defense industry is trying to figure out whatCIA Director Leon Panetta’s plans will be when he takes over at the Pentagon on July 1. Questions abound about what the veteran Washington powerbroker’s spending priorities will be, and whether he will leveragehis years of budgeting and management experience to take an even harder line on Pentagon spending than current Defense Secretary Robert Gates. One thing, however, is certain: After planning the operation that led tobin Laden’s death, he will be extraordinarily popular, which will help him push his agenda through Congress.
7.GOP: WE CAN’T PASS RYANCARE. The Republican effort to transform Medicare into a system of private insurance subsidies has ended, at least temporarily, as Republican leaders acknowledged that political realities had narrowed the range of politically feasible deficit-reduction options. After Cantor said the plan was a political non-starter, Republican leaders spentThursday emphasizing their support for the Medicare proposals included in their budget resolution, while acknowledging that, for now, they don’t have a legislative future. While the shift was likely inevitable—Senate Democrats and the president have made clear their opposition—observers were surprised by how quicklythe tacit recognition came. The budget resolution, authored by House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan , R-Wis., was supported by the entire Republican caucus except five members, and Democratic political operatives don’t plan to let anyone forget it.
8.EASIER SAID THAN DONE . Congressional Democrats have more political momentum than ever to repeal oil and gas tax breaks, but it’s much harder to do than the political sound bites suggest. Unlike renewable and ethanol-energy companies -- which must fight every year or two to get Congress to reauthorize their grants -- oil and gasbreaks are spread throughout the entire tax code, meaning they’re hard to isolate and excise. Compromise within industry to index the subsidies to oil prices is possible, but fornow Congress can’t look past the politics to the policy. Meanwhile, Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., who released a plan last week to end some of thesubsidies, is inviting oil and gas industry executives to a hearing next Thursday. 9.1,000 CUTS. Republicans have introduced one more billto peel back a piece of the health law. This time, Reps. Charles Boustany , R-La., and Pat Tiberi , R-Ohio, are targeting the so-called “employer mandate” piece of the bill, which requires employers with 50 or more full-time employees to offer adequate health insurance coverage or pay a fine.
10.NO CONFIRMATION. Incase there was any doubt President Obama would have to use a recess appointment to install a director at the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the majority of Senate Republicans made it pretty clear on Thursday.Led by Minority Leader Mitch McConnell , R-Ky., and Banking Committee ranking member RichardShelby , R-Ala., 44 senators said they wouldrefuse to confirm any nominee, regardless of party, to lead the consumer agency unless it is converted to a boardor subjected to appropriations. “The president believes that American families who were the hardest hit by this financial crisis deserve an independent watchdog to protect consumers,” the White House responded.

Kentucky Derby Horse Names: Are There Any Rules?
The 2011 Kentucky Derby willbe run on Saturday in Louisville, and among the many pastimes that come with it, marveling at the horse names ranks up there with the best of 'em. And with names like Uncle Mo, Pants on Fire, Mucho Macho Man, and Dialed In, the 2011 field doesn't disappoint.
But are there any sort of guidelines that come with naming the horses? For instance, if we wanted to name a horse "Never Nude" in honor of Arrested Development , would that be allowed? Maybe, but it's all up to The Jockey Club. After the jump, Slate explains.

Nicki Minaj: Super Bass (Music Video)
Nicki Minaj continues the push on her debut album, Pink Friday,
with yet another music video. "Super Bass" is the rap diva's first new
music video for a couple of months, following the release of the Drake-assisted "Moment 4 Life" clip.
"Super Bass" is Nicki's latest single, in which she gets colorful,
sporting an array of colorful wigs, but the vid seems to lean toward
pink. The rapper goes through multiple outfit changes, including some
hot wife-beating and daisy-dukes in one scene where she does a little
choreographed dancing with five look-a-likes.
Later, she rides a motorcycle made of ice, splashes in a pool of pink water, and reprising her lap dances in a glow-in-the-dark room. Check out some of Nicki's odd style.

Jacob Lusk Voted Off 'American Idol,' J.Lo & Lady Antebellum Perform
After facing early fan (and Steven Tyler) favorite Lauren Alaina in
the bottom two, Lusk gave his final performance of Luther Vandross' "A
House Is Not A Home" -- a signature song of sorts for the dramatic,
soulful singer. Lusk showed the crowd what they're soon to be missing
with joyful rendition full of vocal improvisation.
Lusk was calm and collected during his elimination, seeming at peace with the decision and sure of his next move. He told the "Idol" audience that he's so "ready to put out good-feeling R&B music" that "reminds you of Luther [Vandross], reminds you of all those old R&B singers."
In addition to Jacob's illumination, this week's "Idol" saw performances from judge Jennifer Lopez and Grammy darlings Lady Antebellum. The country trio debuted its new single, the breezy, summery "Just A Kiss," on the "Idol" stage. Watch below.
Complete with pyrotechnics, a full set and a slew of shirtless back-up dancers, Jennifer Lopez's "Idol" performance was far more of a production than Lady Antebellum's. "On The Floor" collaborator Pitbull started off the track before kicking it over to an on-the-move J.Lo. Watch below.
he remaining contestants vying for the title of the "American Idol" are: Haley Reinhart, Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina and James Durbin.

Bristol Palin Sparks Plastic Surgery Rumors With New Look
Bristol Palin has set off speculations on whether or not she has undergone facial plastic surgery. Showing up at the Candie's Foundation 2011 benefit gala at Cipriani in New York last Tuesday, May 3, the 20-year-old daughter of Sarah Palin debuted a new look with an angular jawline and more pronounced cheekbones.
The sleeker appearance quickly sent tongue wagging, but an inside source insisted to E! News the mother of one is not the kind of person who would alter her looks by going under the knife. "I can tell you that she has lost a tremendous amount of weight since 'Dancing With the Stars' and that is most likely the reason for the speculation," so said the source.

Has Jodie Foster Fallen Out of Love with Mel Gibson?
Matt Cherette — Has Jodie Foster Fallen Out of Love with Mel Gibson? Has Jodie Foster Fallen Out of Love with Mel Gibson? Ever since Mel Gibson's abusive meltdown coincided with his filming of the Jodie Foster-directed The Beaver, his friend of 15 years has been defending the hot-headed star.
On tonight's Late Show, however, Foster's narrative seemed to change from "God, I love that man," to a more canned, publicist-friendly, "He's wonderful in the movie, he's extraordinary in the film" one. What gives?
Not only did Foster appear to back off of her blind praise of Gibson tonight—aside from a soft "He's a very good friend" at the end of her discussion with Letterman—she also put some distance between Gibson's troubles and the shooting of her film when she remarked that his misbehavior happened "mostly after we wrapped."
Then, after being asked by Letterman if she was willing to defend Gibson's behavior, Foster shot back—before he'd even finished the question—with an emphatic "No."

iOS 5 updates expected to be carried over-the-air, at least for the Verizon iPhone
There’s no reason to believe this wireless update feature will be limited to Verizon, mind you — that’s just where the informants are coming from in this instance — though Apple will almost certainly have to alter the file sizes of its updates. We can’t think of many carriers who’ll be happy to push more than half a gigabyte of data per user per update. Additionally, since iTunes currently acts as the major backup hub, 9to5Mac speculates Cupertino must be working on a cloud backup service as well, which would seem a very sensible idea. Of course, that doesn’t paint a very happy or busy future for iTunes, but so what?
Humans Enter Fukushima Reactorfor First Time Since Quake Disaster
Not since an enormous quake (and subsequent explosions ) crippled the Fukushima plant has anyone stepped foot inside—the radiation has been too thick for humans, leaving robots to do the job . But not today, as workers braved the millisieverts.
After the robot squad reported lowered radiation levels, a team of twelve, working on quick shifts to prevent over-exposure, entered the plant's leaking reactor to repair an urgently-needed ventilation system.
Should it prove successful, the functioning ventilator will allow for more manned missions inside the plant, as radiation levels diminish further—an important path towards (safely) shutting the place down for good. [ AP and Kyodo News ]

Breeders Battle for Right to Claim Hero Navy SEAL Dog
It's been reported that a military dog accompanied the Navy SEAL team that took out Osama bin Laden . But what kind of dog? What kind of dog ? Well, it was probably a German shepherd or a Belgian Malinois, breeds that boast "the best overall combination of keen sense ofsmell, endurance, speed, strength, courage, intelligence and adaptability to almost any climatic condition," according to a military fact sheet cited in The New York Times . The dogwas no doubt awesome, but knowing the exact breed is very important to breeders who are eager to claim the hero canine as one of their own:
Suzanne Belger, president of the American Belgian Malinois Club , said she was hoping the dog was one of her breed “and that it did its job and came home safe.” But Laura Gilbert, corresponding secretary for the German Shepherd Dog Club of America , said she wassure the dog was her breed “because we’re the best!”
The identity of the dog, like those of the 79 SEALs, has not been made public, but that hasn't stopped everyone from wondering about it. The Times points out that military dogs can sniff out explosives and booby-traps, and that "a shepherd or a Malinois runs twice as fast as a human"--meaning that if bin Laden had tried to escape on foot, the dog could have prevented his getaway.

Sandra Bullock's Ex-Husband Claims Kat Von D Is Better in Bed
Jesse James continues to bash his ex-wife Sandra Bullock. After saying that the Oscar-winning actress has cut contact with his daughter in an interview with ABC's "Nightline", the 42-year-old TV personality compared her skills in bed with Kat Von D's, whom he got engaged to in January, in another interview.
On Wednesday, May 4, Jesse stopped by Howard Stern's SiriusXM radio show to promote his memoir "American Outlaw". During the chat, the host of "Monster Garage" proclaimed that sex with his tattoo artist fiancee is 100 percent better than what he had experienced before, including that with the star of "The Blind Side".
Speaking of his fiancee Kat, the CEO of West Coast Choppers has nothing but praises. About their relationship, he gushed to People Magazine, "We have something special that I've never felt with anyone I've ever been with. She loves me like no woman ever has, 100 percent. Man, she has my back."

Navy SEAL Black Hawk was no ordinary chopper
LOS ANGELES (KABC) --
The last act of the Navy SEAL team before they left the Osama bin Laden
compound was to blow up their damaged helicopter that had to be left
behind.
Aviation analysts say the remnants of the aircraft reveal
they were part of one of the U.S. military's most closely-guarded
secret: A stealth Black Hawk helicopter whose existence was only
rumored. It had never been seen in public before. "This is the first time we've seen an operation stealth helicopter," said Bill Sweetman, editor in chief of Defense Technology International magazine.
Analysts say photos that emerged on the Internet reveal it was no ordinary helicopter.
"One of the things that really stands out is they have a little disk over the motors, which is meant to baffle the sound and deny radar signature," said Daniel Goure of the think tank Lexington Institute.
Neighbors in the Abbottabad neighborhood where bin Laden's compound was located told ABC News they did not hear the helicopters Sunday night until they were directly overhead.
"It would be a vague sound," Goure said. "It might be the sound of a helicopter that was going in the opposite direction. This was designed so the time between hearing the helicopter and the SEALs dropping in on the compound was very short."
Residents near the bin Laden compound told ABC News that just before the stealth helicopters arrived, all electricity and cellphone service was knocked out and then came back on right after the choppers left.

Obama to visit Ground Zero
US president Barack Obama will meet with families of those who died during attacks on America on September 11th, 2001, when he visits Ground Zero in New York today.
The president is to attend private talks with families and will lay a wreath at the former site of the World Trade Center during a ceremony.
Mr Obama's visit comes after he said the publication of photographs of the dead Osama Bin Laden would threaten US national security. He said he would not risk giving propaganda to extremists or gloat by publicising grotesque photos of the terrorist leader, who was shot in the head by US special forces in an attack on a sprawling compound near a military academy in the Pakistani town of Abbottabad, 60km from the capital Islamabad.
To those who doubt the US assertion it's forces killed bin Laden during a military operation in Pakistan this week, Mr Obama said, "You will not see bin Laden walking on this earth again."
His government, meanwhile, insisted killing bin Laden, who was unarmed at the time of his death, was lawful and an act of national self-defence.
Mr Obama's visit to New York is intended to have a more measured tone than that witnessed during then president George W Bush's infamous 'bullhorn moment' during an address to workers at Ground Zero shortly after the 2001 attacks.
When one worker shouted, "I can't hear you," Mr Bush responded: "I can hear you! The rest of the world hears you! And the people - and the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon!"
Instead, White House spokesman Jay Carney said today's visit would be a "cathartic moment for the American people." Mr Obama will also lay a wreath at the 9/11 memorial.
The emerging skyscraper now being built on the site of the attack and informally known as Freedom Tower, is more than 60 stories high.
The White House said Mr Obama will meet privately with families of those killed in the attacks and with the emergency workers who assisted in the search and recovery operation.
Heightened security put in place in response to the killing of bin Laden will remain for Mr Obama's visit. Police officials said there are no specific threats against the city but also say they assume bin Laden's "disciples" might try to avenge his death with a terror attack.

Obama visit to ground zero: Can he balance celebration with somberness?
In the days since relaying the news that US forces had killed Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, President Obama has kept a low profile, allowing others to own the microphone and explain the operation to an eager public. That comes to an abrupt end on Thursday, when Mr. Obama will take center stage in New York, at one scene of the 9/11 attacks – a subtle made-for-TV opportunity to take credit for the demise of the man most Americans considered to be Public Enemy No. 1. Two days later, "60 Minutes" will air a pretaped interview with the commander in chief about the bin Laden operation.

'Passion Of The Christ' Star: Hollywood Has 'Rejected' Me For Playing Jesus
The man who played Jesus Christ in Mel Gibson's much criticized "Passion of the Christ," says the role has been his "cross to bear," and that Hollywood has shunned him ever since making the film.
Jim Caviezel, who, before taking the role of Jesus, was a rising Hollywood star with strong reviews for his work in "Frequency," and "The Thin Red Line," told an audience at First Baptist Church of Orlando on Saturday that Gibson begged him to reconsider taking the gig.
"He said, 'You'll never work in this town again,'" Caviezel remembered. "I told him, 'We all have to embrace our crosses.'"
Caviezel recounted a similar story in 2004, when he spoke of the encounter in an interview with the 700 Club.
"The next day, he said, 'I want you to be aware of what you are going to go through. You may never work again.' He said that several times publicly. I told him, 'Mel, this is what I believe. We all have a cross to carry. I have to carry my own cross. If we don't carry our crosses, we are going to be crushed under the weight of it. So let's go and do it.' And we began with the film.

2 Plead Guilty in Phoebe Prince Bullying Case
Two of the six students in South Hadley, Mass., who were charged with bullying 15-year-old Phoebe Prince before her suicide last year, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor harassment charges on Wednesday and received a year's probationeach, plus 100 hours of community service.
The case attracted wide attention after prosecutors brought unusually severe felony charges and because of the poignantstory of Ms. Prince, a newly arrived Irish immigrant who hanged herself after what the prosecutor described as months of bullying. The prosecutor accused the defendants of relentlessly tormenting her and calling her an "Irish slut" after she briefly dated two senior boys.
The two students who pleaded guilty on Wednesday, Sean Mulveyhill and Kayla Narey, had both faced more serious felony charges, including violation of Ms. Prince's civil rights and causing bodily injury - in effect, contributing to her death in January2010 - with a potential sentence of 10 years. Three other former students facing similar charges as "youthful offenders" are scheduled to appear in juvenile court on Thursday, and it appeared likely that they would receive similar deals.
A sixth former student, Austin Renaud, wascharged with statutory rape. A trial is scheduled for July 6. In court filings, the prosecutors described witness accounts of several instances in which the defendants had appeared to harass or threaten Ms. Prince. But accounts of Ms. Prince's prior history of depression and two suicide attempts came to light in defense motions that quoted from her mother's grand jury testimony. Lawyers said this could have undermined the prosecution of the most severe charges.
Ms. Prince's mother, Anne O'Brien, told reporters Wednesday that she approved ofthe settlements because the students admitted to crimes while the family avoided the emotional distress of a trial.

Sirius XM radio goes with new edition of channels
Starting today, subscribers to the original Sirius or XM will be seeing their programming consolidated into one single lineup.
The new edition of channels follows the current Sirius lineup more closely. According to Kicking Tires, Howard Stern shows remain on channels 100 and 101. Channel changes include Sirius XM Hits 1 moving to channel 2, and E Street Radio, the Bruce Springsteen network, moving to channel 20.
Hip-Hop Nation will now be found on channel 44, and The Heat will move to channel 47.
Sirius and XM merged in 2008, and subscribers have been able to listen to programming from both services. “We’re making many of the channel numbers consistent whether you have a Sirius or an XM radio,” Sirius XM said in a statement, according to the Long Island Press. “Now customers will only have to remember a single channel number for their favorite programming.” The new lineup should have updated automatically for subscribers on Wednesday.
SiriusXM now has over 20 million paid subscribers according to first quarter 2011 results. CEO Mel Karmazin told the Hollywood Reporter that makes Sirius XM one of the largest subscription businesses in the world. He said they would have increased the company’s subscriber target goal of 1.4 million for 2011 if it wasn't for uncertainty following the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, which may yet lead to supply issues for automakers.
Sirius XM’s total subscriber numbers have fallen behind the 22.8 million U.S. subscribers that Netflix had reported as its first quarter totals.

As Sony struggles to get PSN back up,new details emerge
With the PlayStation Network expected to be back up within a matter of days, Sony's statements to a US House subcommittee seem to point the finger on responsibility back at hacktivist group Anonymous, which initially denied involvement .
PlayStation chief Kazuo Hirai told Congress in a letter that the company was a victim ofa sophisticated attack. As part of the hack, a file was planted on the company's serversnamed "Anonymous" with the words "We Are Legion." He said the company understood the full scope of the attack by April 25 , but could not rule out the compromising of credit card data.
The statement seems somewhat at odds with the company's public statements, which up until at least April 29 seemed to suggest that credit card data had not been touched. Regardless of that fact, Hirai said that Sony had not received any reports of fraud that was believed to be connected to the PSN hack.
Sony's hack is one of several being investigated by the feds, US Attorney General Eric Holder confirmed to Reuters Wednesday.
"I am of course aware of the criticism Sony has received for the time taken to disclose information to our customers," Hirai wrote. "I hope you can appreciate the extraordinary nature of the events the company was facing -- brought on by a criminal hacker whose activity was neither immediately nor easily ascertainable."

Fish with Ancho Chile Paste and Cream – Another fish dish with a Mexican-style sauce that uses halibut, fancy rockfish, white seabass, or salmon.
Celebratory drinks

New Higher-Capacity MovinCool PC7 Personal Space Cooler
MovinCool ® announced a new, more powerful version of its PC7 portable spot air conditioner. The new model’s cooling capacity of 9,000 Btu/h, an almost 30 percent increase over the previous version, is made possible by a more efficient design, which provides greater airflow over both the evaporator and condenser. The unit operates without a condensate tank, eliminating the need for a drain line or manual emptying of condensate. Environmentally friendly features include the use of non-ozone-depleting R410A refrigerant.

“Our compact PC7 is based on the same spot-cooling concept as our larger systems,” said John Doran, senior manager, Commercial and Industrial Systems. “It’s a convenient, affordable way for our customers with smaller air-conditioning needs, such as small businesses and offices, to get quick cooling relief.”
The PC7 is the smallest of MovinCool’s line of portable spot air conditioners. Its compact size and suggested list price of $595 make it ideal for small businesses and officesthat do not have central air conditioning, or wherever supplemental or emergency cooling is needed.
Like all MovinCool spot air conditioners, the self-contained PC7 requires no refrigerant connections. Installation consists of simply wheeling it into place and plugging it into a standard 110-V outlet. A flexible duct with an easily attachable window adapter vents hot air outside.

If you were hoping to get your hands on one of the nicely priced ASUS Eee Pad Transformers , you might have to wait until mid-summer.

Sony warns of another 24.6 million users hacked
Sony says that hackers may have stolen the personal details of an extra 24.6 million users after an intrusion at Sony Online Entertainment, or SOE, its multiplayer online gaming service.
Sony has warned of a second big security breach, saying that hackers may have stolen the personal details of 24.6 million multiplayer online game users, including passwords, names, addresses and credit card information.
This is on top of the 77 million users who the company admitted last week may have had their personal data stolen after the PlayStation Network was hacked.
The latest data theft is connected not with PlayStation, but rather it affects accounts registered with Sony Online Entertainment, or SOE, that company’s popular multiplayer online gaming service.
Sony said that hackers may have stolen about 12,700 credit card or debit card numbers from countries outside the United States, as well as 10,700 direct debit records of users in Austria, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain.
An ongoing investigation by Sony revealed that the latest attack by hackers may have occurred on April 16 and 17, earlier than the PlayStation breach which occurred from April 17-19, the company said.
The latest data hack is another setback for Sony, with the bad news coming just days after executives with the Japanese company apologized to gamers and promised a security overhaul of its PlayStation Network.
As a result of the security breach, Sony has temporarily shut its service to multiplayer online games available on personal computers, Facebook and PlayStation 2. Sony said it will give players an extra 30 days on their subscriptions, plus one day for each day the system is down.

Bethenny Frankel's Skinnygirl cocktails reportedly fetched $120 million
Fortune Brands' Beam Global Spirits and Wine unit paid approximately $120 million for the Bethenny Ever After star's Skinnygirl low-calorie margarita brand when it acquired it last month.
Launched 18 months ago with liquor-industry veteran David Kanbar while she was still co-starring in The Real Housewives of New York City, Frankel's Skinnygirl Margarita -- a bottled cocktail that contains only 100 calories per four-ounce serving -- had only limited distribution (mostly in New York, New Jersey and Florida) at the time of its sale but was in such high demand that the company had been unable to keep up.

Pippa's secret will break hearts worldwide
IT WAS the day Royal Maid of Honour Pippa Middleton dazzled the world in a dress that left very little to the imagination ... but it emerged that she may have kept something secret after all.
For it seems that Carole and Michael's second daughter is engaged in all but name to her City broker boyfriend Alex Loudon.
The couple have stayed silent about the future of their relationship for fear of detracting attention from William and Kate.
If rumours of an official announcement later this year are true, they will cause widespread disappointment, for it seems that in the wake of "That Dress", Pippa could have her pick of suitors.
The sensational fluid white column made by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen was an unusual choice both for its bridal colour and its curve-enhancing cling.
In an act of sisterly generosity, Kate must have sanctioned it in the full knowledge that it would showcase Pippa's fabulous figure, deep tan and glossy hair to perfection on the world stage.
Osama killed in mansion outside Islamabad?
WASHINGTON: Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden is dead, and President Barack Obama will announce his death, nearly 10 years after the September 11 attacks in a televised address, a senior US official said.
The official said that Bin Laden was dead, but did not provide details of how his death occurred.
US media quoted sources as saying that Bin Laden was killed in an operation based on actionable US intelligence targeting a mansion outside Islamabad.
Obama was imminently to address Americans in a highly unusual Sunday night appearance on television.
The death of Bin Laden will raise huge questions about the future shape of al Qaeda and also have steep implications for US security and foreign policy 10 years into a global anti-terror campaign. (AFP)
