6.9-magnitude quake hits Soloman Islands

An earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale jolted Solomon Islands at 0423 GMT on Saturday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 81.6 km, was initially determined to be at 10.4450 degrees south latitude and 161.4199 degrees east longitude. The quake was centered 76 km west of Kira Kira, San Cristobal, and 171 km southeast of the capital Honiara, Solomon Islands.

No tsunami warning was issued. And so far no casualty or damage has been reported.
